Harry the Talking Rabbit

Harry the Talking Rabbit is a story of a little girl who inwardly feels unhappy and alone. She loved skipping from her house into the woods because it always made her feel safe and protected and her imagination could run free.

One warm sunny day, instead of using her imagination, she was aware of all the living things around her. She felt dwarfed as she stood looking up at the tall trees as they seemed to touch the sky. As she continued skipping through the trees, she suddenly saw rabbits sitting out in the woods alone in wire cages. Stopping and looking at all the rabbits, they seemed to be well cared for. As she viewed the last of the rabbits, she saw that he was the most beautiful of all the rabbits. His fur seemed to shine, and she was surprised to see that he wore a tiny little suit and best of all were four tiny tennis shoes on his feet.

She reached through the wire cage and touched his shoes. In fright she jumped back when the rabbit talked and said, “Hi, little girl. My name's Harry. What is yours?”

“My name is Cassie, but rabbits aren't supposed to talk like people,” she said.

“I've always been able to talk,” Harry said.

Cassie visited Harry every day, their bond deepened as they shared their feelings.
