Beginnings
When it occurs, the erosion of that unique civilization we call the United States will occur with effortless ease. It will occur because those rare elements that collectively brought about its success are far too easily misunderstood. The use of words like democracy, republic, and rights provide too simple a set of landmarks for a social contract that needs so much of our attention in order to survive.
Against us has gathered every power-hungry person and every power-hungry culture that exists today. Even so, they would be ill-equipped to rob us of our birthright were it not for the overshadowing impact of millions of years of evolution, which we have failed to identify and provide for. That is our animal past, which we have come so close to putting behind us.
In this segment of Victims of the State entitled Beginnings, you will meet the first in a new line of heroes: the man who seeks, through the strength of his own humanity, to break the unholy cord that binds man and woman to their animal past and who seeks, through his devotion to the sanctity of human life and the precepts of individualism, to bear witness to the possibility of a better future.
A lonesome man, abandoned by his family, his business in the hands of his son, broadcasting from a hill in a suburb of a midwestern city... Bill Carson was a most unlikely progenitor for a family that would serve as the antagonists to a power hungry, overbearing, socialist regime. But there were friends about, one a woman who thoroughly believed in him.
He had luck, a mysterious fortune, a loving son, and, being eccentric himself, unexpected help from other somewhat eccentric sources. This is a time of families, his daughter-in-law would later foretell, and the Carson family were up to the task of making their family the one entity that would change the nature of their country, hopefully forever...
